Latest Arsenal Transfer Rumours 29/7/11
Fans have criticized the slow pace at which Wenger is moving ahead with the signings – but things are looking up. Over the past few days, transfer rumours at the Gunners camp have reached feverish pitch. Some big Arsenal transfer news has made headlines this week. So, who’s out for sure, and who is packing his bags for the Emirates? Read on to find out.
Gunners May Bag Juan Mata
There is reason to cheer for Gunner fans as the club has reportedly agreed to pay a whopping £17m for Valencia midfielder and Spain international, Juan Mata. The 23-year old has a string of noteworthy performances to his credit in the U-21 European Championships, and is known for his pace and intelligence on the field. Though the player was also linked to Manchester United most recently, all fingers point to an imminent Emirates move, with the club willing to loosen its purse strings for this talented player. And Valencia, which is facing a cash crunch seems to have given in and struck a profitable deal. A win-win for both? Official news from the Wenger camp is still awaited.
Wenger Issues an Ultimatum to Barca
Pay up £40m for Cesc Fabregas by August 5 or say goodbye to a transfer deal – this is what Wenger has supposedly told Barcelona. After a lot of dilly dallying, it is natural that Wenger is concerned about his star player and current captain’s future at the club. Two offers from the Spanish club have so far been rejected by Arsenal, and Wenger is keen to wrap up a deal before they play their away-match on August 13 against Newcastle. If the move comes through, Fabregas will be moving to his supposed dream club and the Gunners can concentrate on bagging other deals.
Bendtner Out!
Nicklas Bendtner is finally on his way out, but not many Gunner fans will be sad to see him go. In fact, it would come as a relief considering the fact that they never really warmed up to him, and given his poor performance in the seasons so far. The striker will move to Sporting Lisbon, the premier Portugal club, for a deal reportedly hovering around the £10 m mark. This is despite a ‘self-valuation’ of £12 m that the Danish player supposedly thought he was worth. The frustrated player’s tryst with Emirates comes to an end, with official announcements awaited over the weekend.
Wenger Still Pursuing Jagielka
Arsene Wenger is fighting it out with Everton to agree to a £15 m deal for defender Phil Jagielka, though the club is valuing the player at £18m. Wenger is supposedly keen to complement Thomas Vermaelen and bolster the side’s defence. While Cahill and Samba are the alternatives, nothing has come to fruition so far, and the Gunners boss is keen to land Jagielka. In fact, he has confessed to being a big fan of the Everton Player of the Season for 2008-2009, and may improve on his current offer too if the need arises.
